Sossaman Middle School has a state-of-the-art facility and educational community focused on building a strong foundation for each student’s secondary education. Sossaman Middle School is organized around an inter-disciplinary team of educators who provide a small and student-centered learning environment. We are thrilled to announce that enrollment, and open enrollment, for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year is now open!

Semester 1 Finals Schedule

Finals for the first semester will take place on Thursday, December 18 and Friday, December 19. These are also early release days. Please keep an eye on our weekly Spartan Communication email for the bell schedule for both days. 

If you will need to reschedule a final, please email your students teacher. 

Sossaman Spelling Bee Winners

Please join us in congratulating the winners of our school spelling bee, Shyla Abreu and James Lawrence! They will be representing Spartan Nation at the district spelling bee on Thursday, January 8th at the Higley Center for Performing Arts. Doors will open at 4:30 and the bee starts at 5pm. Go Spartans!

Every In-Person Higley Unified School Earned State’s ‘A’ Rating

We are excited to announce that every in-person school in the Higley Unified School District (HUSD) has earned an “A” letter grade from the Arizona Department of Education for the 2024–25 school year. This achievement reflects the district’s commitment to academic excellence, student growth, and high-quality research-based instruction across all campuses. Important Update: Weekly Early Release Coming to Middle Schools

Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Cooley and Sossaman Middle Schools will have early release every Wednesday at 1:35 PM to support teacher professional development. This weekly change aims to enrich learning experiences and strengthen classroom instruction by giving staff dedicated time to reflect, plan, and grow, benefiting your student’s education in a meaningful way.

HUSD Governing Board Meeting Schedule

The Higley Unified School District Governing Board meeting schedule can be found on the district website at husd.org/board-meetings. The public is welcome to attend all board meetings. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the meetings. Board Business Meetings and Work Study Sessions are livestreamed on the district YouTube channel. Please note, Points of Pride, Higley Adventures, and Requests to Speak are not included during the Work Study meetings. 

Tax Credit Donation Reminder

We would like to remind families who are interested in making a tax credit donation this season, that this can be made for any one of our schools through our HUSD website.

An individual may claim a nonrefundable tax credit for making cash contributions or for certain fees paid to a public school located in Arizona.

To qualify for the credit, an individual must make contributions for qualifying expenditures per A.R.S. § 43-1089.01. The credit is equal to the amount of fees paid or cash contributions, not to exceed $400 for married filing joint filers and $200 for all other filing statuses. We ask that you recognize the importance of viewing ParentVue on a regular basis, as you will find the most-up-to-date grades.

HUSD Enrollment Opens December 1

The Higley Unified School District (HUSD) will open student enrollment and open enrollment for the 2026–2027 school year on December 1, 2025, at 8:00 AM. Families are encouraged to enroll early to secure placement at one of the district’s A-rated schools and to prepare for upcoming campus events designed to welcome new students.
