SMS Front Office Procedures

In an effort to prepare students for life beyond Sossaman, we encourage you to assist with organizing them the night before the day ahead to help eliminate items being dropped off.  We do, however, allow for the following: Medically needed items requested by the nurse or your doctor and items too large for the bus or too heavy for your child to carry. We appreciate your assistance as we develop successful, responsible young adults. Items may be stored in the lockers located in the front office. Classes will not be interrupted for delivery of items, students may come and get items between classes or during lunch. Please note that we are not responsible for items that have been dropped off. 

Please note that parents/students are not allowed to order Door Dash, Grub Hub, etc. Any orders that arrive to campus will be held for pick up after school in the front office. 

No liquids other than water are allowed in the building and will be discarded. 

The front office will NOT be responsible for delivering items to students. Please also note that we do our best to deliver phone messages. Messages are delivered the last 5 minutes of a class period so as to not interrupt class instructional time.

The District Steering and District Review Committees for the K-5 English Language Arts High Quality Instructional Materials Adoption presented their recommendations to the Governing Board on December 9, initiating the 60-Day Public Review. HUSD families, teachers, staff, and community members are invited to provide feedback on the committees' recommendations. Your input is valuable in this process! All materials are on display at the District Office in the Board Room for you to review. Please consult the schedule for the operating hours. The 60-Day Public Review will run through February 10, 2026. Thank you for participating! Starting in the 2025-2026 school year, Cooley and Sossaman Middle Schools will have early release every Wednesday at 1:35 PM to support teacher professional development. This weekly change aims to enrich learning experiences and strengthen classroom instruction by giving staff dedicated time to reflect, plan, and grow, benefiting your student’s education in a meaningful way.

Do you love your school? We want you to brag about it! Leave a positive review of your school on Google, or your favorite school rating website and share the reasons you love your school. 

Or, give a Staff Shout Out! Submit our online form and tell us about your excellent customer service experience, and they will be presented with a Shout Out Certificate and recognized in front of their peers.  

Your feedback contributes to a positive environment for all staff and students, as we prepare learners for limitless opportunities. 

The Higley Unified School District Governing Board meeting schedule can be found on the district website at husd.org/board-meetings. The public is welcome to attend all board meetings. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the meetings. Board Business Meetings and Work Study Sessions are livestreamed on the district YouTube channel. Please note, Points of Pride, Higley Adventures, and Requests to Speak are not included during the Work Study meetings. 

We would like to remind families who are interested in making a tax credit donation this season, that this can be made for any one of our schools through our HUSD website.

An individual may claim a nonrefundable tax credit for making cash contributions or for certain fees paid to a public school located in Arizona.

To qualify for the credit, an individual must make contributions for qualifying expenditures per A.R.S. § 43-1089.01. The credit is equal to the amount of fees paid or cash contributions, not to exceed $400 for married filing joint filers and $200 for all other filing statuses.
